It seems like ages since I was in the studio so it feels really good to have this guy finished at last. I have had this funny quote by Grougho Marx in my quote-to-use list for ages and when the Documented Life Journal art challenge was “Cover up the good stuff” and the journal prompt to go with was “Going undercover” I knew I had the break I needed. Originally I was going to write the 2nd hald of the quote inside the dog so need a long dog – hello Dachshund! I consider myself failed at covering up the good stuff but here are a couple of close ups so you can see what is underneath – just click the images to see them in all their glory:
The whole page is in a largish (470 x 238 mm or 18.8 x 9.4 inches) re-purposed children’s storybook so the page started like this:-
After several layers of sealers, gesso, acrylic paint, stencils and writing I sketch in the main characters in pencil.
Then I work on the dog and book detail to get to this (below) before adding the text and page border, date stamp and my watermark.
