My husband and I went away for a few days recently to visit artists taking part in this years Margaret River Region Open Studios. We saw 29 artists work – painters, sculpters, jewellery makers, printmakers, ceramic and mixed media artists – it was inspiring seeing all the different art and talking to the artists about their art practice.
We turned up a few surprises including this work we purchased from Anita Haywood. She takes her sewing machine to different places and “draws” from life, sometimes adding water colours to further embellish the stitching. I love how this work, done in front of a dance class, shows the movement, arms and legs everywhere more to find the longer you look.
Its also feels good to support other local artists – play it forward as it were.
Now to decide whether to hang it this way up or on its side and how cool is it to have an artwork that you can hang either way!
